Welcome to Beyond the Frame
An (occasional) newsletter where I'll share reviews, photography and post-processing tips, highlight relevant tools and services, and share the occasional photograph.
A brief introduction
I’m a UK-based photographer living in West Sussex with easy access to the coast and some attractive woodland. I work full-time in IT but photography plays a very significant role in my life, and has done for many years. The things I enjoy about photography, as many of us do, include: the opportunity to constantly learn, the creative outlet, the technology, the post processing, printing, additional incentive to be out in nature, the challenge to product works of art, the restorative and mindful nature of time out with a camera, the exercise, meeting new and long-standing friends, and enjoying the endlessly inspiring work of fellow photographers, some I count as friends and some I hope to meet some day.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, which is why I offer workshops and decided to create this blog.
I tend to concentrate on long exposure, woodland, and infrared photography. I offer 1-day workshops in all of these genres, details of which you can find on my website. I’m also a workshop lead for Aspect2i and have previously run Long Exposure masterclasses for them. I’m currently working towards putting together new workshops for them which I’ll post about when they’re ready.
More recently I’ve started to introduce ICM into my portfolio and have started to dabble with astrophotography. I’ve also produced some studio-based work and had intended to offer pet photography to local customers but I don’t currently have a suitable location for my studio equipment.
What can you expect from this newsletter?
Firstly, I can assure you I won’t be overloading your inbox with newsletters. As I mentioned, I work fulltime so my newsletters and notes will be occasional, i.e. if and when I feel I have something you might be interested in or benefit from. I may sometimes post my images, perhaps along with a promotion for a workshop but the majority of my image posting will be across my social media channels.
Newsletter content will consist of independent reviews, e.g. photography related equipment and services, tips on photography and post-processing techniques, software tools I use and how I use them, recommendations for events, other photographers’ work, Aspect2i workshops, and anything else photography related that seems worth sharing.
A number of images on my website and social media channels were published some time ago but I’m now starting to tackle the huge backlog of images I’ve taken over the last few years and will be regularly sharing them, as time permits, so I recommend subscribing my channel on your choice of social media platform.
Let’s talk!
It would be great to hear from if you want to share your thoughts and suggestions for future posts, or just if you have a question for me. Feel free to comment or message me directly.
Thanks for your interest in Beyond the Frame and I look forward to sharing photography related content with you that I hope you’ll find interesting and useful.
To kick things off, I’ll be shortly be posting an article on the exceptional colour neutrality of Haida Red Diamond neutral density filters and my recommendation on where to purchase Haida products. All of this is based on my own personal experience and is entirely independent of any sponsorship or benefits in kind.
